How To

How to make wood joints

This tutorial will help you join two pieces of wooden together. The "pocket hole joint" is a method whereby we drill holes into the wood and glue them together. This method works great if your wood is straight and smooth. If your wood isn't straight or flat, you might want to try another method, such as dowel joinery. Here are the steps

  1. Drill Pocket Hole Joints. You will need to measure and mark the exact location of your pocket hole joint. Then drill 3/4 inch deep holes into the ends of each piece of wood using a jig saw or handheld drilling machine.
  2. Sand Smooth. Sanding the wood's edges will ensure that the joint doesn't split.
  3. Glue the two sides of the wood together. Apply glue to both the ends of the wood. Allow it to sit for approximately 5 minutes before you clamp the pieces together.
  4. Clamp the Pieces Together. After the glue has dried you can attach the pieces to form a flush joint.
  5. Trim Joinery. Trim any excess wood surrounding the joint once the glue has dried completely.

Be sure to leave enough space between each piece so that they can be turned inside-out.
